Singles Release Show at Hotel Cafe Main Stage on Friday August 26th

The Hotel Cafe Main Stage

Hey Everyone,

I’m proud to announce that the band and I will be playing our first big show of 2022 at the Hotel Cafe main stage on Friday August 26th in celebration of three new singles I will releasing here shortly.

I would be deeply deeply honored to be surrounded by friends to ring in these new songs, before I leave to tour the United States again throughout October and November of this year. The tour booking is coming along nicely by the way. Here the dates I have scheduled thus far:

I would be honored to have you at Hotel Cafe to celebrate all the hard work I have been pouring into my music and its production, but also all the touring, promotion, management and booking I have been doing. I would be so thrilled to be surrounded by the people I love, hopefully with love in their hearts for me as well.

GOOD MUSIC: BENJAMIN JAFFE | Oh Wild Ocean of Love

I first heard Benjamin Jaffe many years ago in a band called Honey Honey. I was competing against them in a radio station competition. I gave them a listen and thought they sounded great! They ended up winning that competition and getting a record deal with Jude Cole and Keifer Sutherland’s record label, which I think was very well deserved. I didn’t keep contact with their music though. I forgot about them. There’s a lot of really great music going on around us; it wasn’t intentional by any means… it just sort of happened.

Fast forward a decade or so, and I’m at Hotel Cafe for one of the Hootenanny nights they do on the last Monday of every month. It was a fantastic night of music. Everyone was excellent—but for whatever reason, this dude stood out to me in a way that was unforgettable. His songs were mesmerizing… and interesting—unique—I think that’s the right word. He has a beautiful voice. He’s an excellent guitar player—a studied guitar player. I’m watching him play chord inversions and utilizing a lot of the chord vocabulary that I’ve been studying myself for years, so I can see it. I can hear it. On these Hootenanny nights, the artists only play three songs, but that was all it took for me to dig what he was doing. I was hooked. I talked to him afterwards, we exchanged numbers and email. I joined his email list. He told me he was working on a new album. He sent a free download from that album to everyone on his mailing list. It was a song called “Dominator”. This one:

I listened to the hell out of that song. This was all probably in the later portion of 2017. “Dominator” kept me satiated while I waited for that full length. At any rate, he finally released said album. It’s called “Oh Wild Ocean of Love.” It was my favorite album of 2018. Heads and tails above the rest. It’s curious, and fun, and serious, and deep—like a Kurt Vonnegut novel. He’ll make me laugh in the middle of a serious song. I can relate to him. Did I mention he’s an excellent lyricist as well? He is.

I could sit here a wax poetic about his music—but instead I just urge you to pop this album on while you’re driving your car by yourself. I sat in traffic for hours on end listening to this beautiful piece of work. My desire is that you will get nearly as much joy from it as I did. It’s an album. It’s not a single. It’s not two tracks you love—and skip, skip, skip. It’s good art. It’s good music.

You can find WILD OCEAN OF LOVE everywhere where streaming music is available. You can also purchase his album if you fancy.

Fool For You (Live at Hotel Cafe)

Here is me performing a song I wrote live at Hotel Cafe in West Hollywood, Los Angeles, CA. My friend Monika Lightstone found this on her hard drive the other day, and shared—I thought I would follow suit.

FOOL FOR YOU

words and music by Mike Vitale

the touch of your skin against mine
was flawless and supine
as I read your story in braille

my resolve was as frail
as that tall tale that lingered from my tongue
now I'm all twisted up
like a towel that's been wrung

maybe it's the conversation we had in bed
maybe i just want to see your eyes roll back in your head
maybe you're a drag from a stranger's cigarette
but once i've got you on my lips
you're hard to forget

and now that you've got me where you want
you're moving from hot to cool
and now that you've got me where you want
woman, i'm a fool for you

feeling your chest heave
as you're lying there asleep
now I'm bating every breath
so that the moment isn't cheap

are you resolved to entail
a large sail to guide me away
on some nautical course
that perhaps I'd rather stay

maybe you're just playing hard to get
or perhaps you just want me to forget
maybe I'm a marionette on strings
trying to measure your depth beyond anatomy

and now that you've got me where you want
you're moving from hot to cool
and now that you've got me where you want
woman, i'm a fool for you

and now that you've got me where you want
you're moving from hot to cool
and now that you've got me where you want
woman, i'm a fool for you

Live at The Hotel Cafe on September 20th 2018

Hey Friends!

Tom Bremer and I are going to be playing an acoustic duo set on the Hotel Cafe main stage this Thursday September 20th 2018 at 7pm. We’re playing in support of the incomparable Matt Andersen who is out on tour. We would be thrilled to have you there.

Advanced tickets are available on the Hotel Cafe website. Here is a link to purchase:

If you have never had the opportunity to hear Tom and I play together, this would be the perfect opportunity for you to do so. We have been playing together now for several years and used to play quite frequently together at LAX, in the Bradley Terminal for international travel passengers.

Tom is the second guitar player on most of my acoustic album I released in May of this year called EMPTY CIRCLE:

Here is a video we did last week together. It’s a cover of The Grateful Dead classic “Friend of the Devil.”

I hope this finds you all in good spirits (I’m personally in pajamas) and that we might be able to share some vibes with you on Thursday night at 7pm.

Hotel Cafe Acoustic Album Release - May 12th 2018

Album Cover by Sonya Kanelstrand

Album Cover by Sonya Kanelstrand

I have an acoustic duo album that I am going to be releasing on May 12th 2018 on the Hotel Cafe second stage at 8pm, and I would love to have you there.  Advanced tickets are available for purchase at The Hotel Cafe website:

https://www.hotelcafe.com/tickets/?s=events_view&id=7581

The cover for the new album was photographed by Sonya Kanelstrand.  I am so thrilled to have her image as the face of this extended play release.  If you are interested in finding more of her material online, you can do so here:  http://www.kanelstrand.com

The music on the album is something I have devoted quite a bit of time to for the past several years, whether on the writing of the songs, the capturing of the material, the arrangements, or trying my best to mix some of this material in a manner that I feel is flattering, all by myself.  With that last bit being said, I'm very lucky to have Ryan Lipman stepping in to mix this material for release.

Along with the stellar talent of Sonya and Ryan, my friend Keenan Castello will be joining me on lead guitar that night to perform these songs, live, and my friend Lakin will be opening the show at 7pm.  Tom Bremer played lead guitar on several of these tunes, but will be out on tour during the release.

Your love, support and encouragement means the world to me and I would be stoked to be surrounded by family, friends, acquaintances, and fans.
